Sports Relief

Today we all did our bit for Sports Relief.

In the morning we had an assembly and watched video about life for Champa, a 10 year old girl who lives in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and has to scavenge through rubbish for things she can sell, just to buy enough food to stay alive.

To help the children think about what it would be like to live such a life like that we set up an activity that would allow them to get some first hand experience:

The most common responses were "smelly, disgusting, hard, and really upsetting". The children quickly realised how hard it would be to survive in such an environment and understood that giving up and just stopping wasn't an option.

In the afternoon we went back outside to run our mile for Sports Relief, again thinking about how resilient Champa has to be to keep doing what she needs to.

We learnt that just £1 would feed 5 children a hot meal, and that £5 would be enough to get a child the books they would need to attend school.
When we talked about the impact £1 could have the children felt really proud and we are excited to find out how much we have raised as a school...
