Well done to all of the children for their hard work this term! They performed so well in the Nativity, behaved wonderfully at our Church Service, and were a very respectful audience when we went to watch the Junior School's dress rehearsal.
We have had a busy couple of weeks as we have also had our Christmas party, watched a puppet show, had a visit from Father Christmas and prepared our classrooms for January.
The children have truly earned a rest and should be really proud of themselves for making such a great start to Year 2.
Christmas Holiday Home Learning.
We were EXTREMELY impressed with the
quality of the home learning work the children brought in for our mini-beast
topic. It really helped the children to get the most out of our lessons and
they loved being able to use what they had learnt to teach other children.
After
Christmas we will be working on traditional tales. Your learning challenge this
time is to make a story sack or a story box relating to a traditional tale such
as Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, The Three Little Pigs, Jack and
the Beanstalk, The Princess and the Frog, The Three Billy Goats Gruff (and so
on).
A story
sack is everything you need to retell a story, such as paper puppets, objects (e.g.
three bowls for Goldilocks and the Three Bears), or key words relating to the
story. Here are a couple of examples of story sacks:
A story box
is a shoe box that has been turned into scenery from the story with characters
that can move about to help children tell the story (see below).
We know
Christmas is a busy time but two weeks away from school can sometimes leave
children needing something to do. We would like the children to bring their
completed home learning into school throughout the next half-term so please
don’t panic if you don’t have time during the Christmas holidays.
Best wishes
for Christmas and New Year,
The Year Two Team.
