The long awaited update! More coming shortly.

Hey, thank you for reading the Year blog! I know the update has been a while coming, Year 2 has been so busy with exciting learning, read below to find out more.

REMINDER: You are welcome to visit and celebrate our BLAST FROM THE PAST MUSUEM on Friday 14th February at 9AM!

We would also like to invite you to help your child create an exhibition on a chosen historical event or person. We shall be covering Scott of the Antarctic, The Titanic and The Great Fire of London, with a little help from the Doctor. I am sure the Doctor will remind the children of this shortly! These will be displayed and present to parents by our children who will be the experts 14th February.

Our topic:

This half term we were so lucky to get visited by Doctor Who! He left his Tardis here for us to see and explore. In the Tardis, blue and exciting, were a variety of objects from a famous historical figure. The children explored the objects and decided that they from an explorer of a cold area and had lots of things to do with ships and boats.  After reading some of the old newspaper and diary entries that were also in the Titanic we discovered it had all belong to Captain Robert Falcon Scott and his race to the South Pole. We looked at his ship the Terra Nova and his expedition of Antarctica. The children, using their drama skills, role played being one of Scott’s men or even being captained Scott himself. We then wrote in the first person perspective describing everything we could see.

Check out some of the photos of our role play and some of the children’s exciting writing.

Following this Doctor Who came back into our class, and left some new objects for the children to explore again! The children knew straight away it was all about the Titanic. We then began researching through books and the computers to find out lots of information all about the disastrous adventure.  We have written diaries, letters home and are currently interviewing each other in character of a survivor and are composing a Newspaper report for the Doctors Next visit!

I wonder what he will bring back next?!

Just a quick ask – if you could make sure when reading with your child you briefly write in the Home link (red reading diary).

Thanks and enjoy the photos.

Mr Hustler and the Year 2 Team.
