Thank you for checking the blog of Pennington Infants Year 2 classes.
A huge thank you!
I would like to begin by thanking all the parents for coming into school to celebrate the children's learning and discussing how we are learning in year 2. Parents evenings have been a big success, we have received lots of positive comments and as a staff are really happy with how things are going!
Secondly, I would like to say a special thanks to all the parents who have come in to support learning, through reading, leading small group activities or helping with art based activities. The children have found this incredibly beneficial to their learning and are enjoying reading with other children's mums and dads.
What have we been up to?
1) follow our Maths learning, counting minpins and visiting the Minpin shop!
2) Write our own story recounts.
3) Predict what would happen in the story.
Following this the children researched and explored the Smoke Belching Spittler and decided he was a type of Dragon! Not an ordinary type of flying dragon, but a fire breathing dragon that cannot fly! We have since learnt about a wide variety of dragons, including lonely Sea Dragons, Viscous Mountain dragons, Grumpy Red Drakes, Lovabye Night Dragons and Toothless - from How to Train your dragon!
The children have learnt how to write stories and we have broken this up into:
1) Setting the scene.
2) Introducing the character.
3) Creating a problem.
4) Have a solution to the problem.
5) Our endings.
In maths we have been learning to add, subtract, multiply and divide using money in the Minpin Shop, Dragons and their eggs, horns, wings, claws, spikes and feet!
Come in and see what we are up to - "We need you help!"

and the Year 2 Team.
