The Romania Adventure

Hello, thanks for reading the Romania adventure blog. I want to start this by saying how greatful all of the adults here and I am with your generous donations that made this trip possible. For those who don't know, 7 others and myself have ventured off to Rashnov, Romania to teach in a Roma Gypsy

community. The town itself is not as poor as I was expecting, however half a kilometre to the north, just outside of town is the Gypsy community. The houses facing the main strip look like rundown houses, however behind them the houses are little more than sheds, often with large gaps in the wooden shacks. Not the nicest place to live.

The journey so far:
After finishing packing and locating the passport I managed to get myself 2 hours sleep before being picked up by the minibus at 3am! We arrived at Luton airport at 6am, after checking in with Wizz air and getting through security we boarded the plan. No time for breakfast!

The aeroplane journey was pleasant, however coming into land 3 hours later into Bucharest airport, the ride was bumpy to say the least. Following that we had a 3 and a half hour minibus ride to Rashnov, through some beautiful scenery, farmers fields to placid lakes, small villages to open sided mountains, non of which I saw as I fell asleep.

Our hosts - Aurel and Helena cooked a scrumpscious meal of Turkey and boiled vegetables. Yummy, we are now preparing tomorrows lessons for the children whom are joining us at 2pm. That's all for today, I am going to catch some sleep.

See you tomorrow,
Alex Hustler.
