Summer 2 Roars into town!

Hello, thanks for checking in to the Year 2 blog at Pennington Infant School, possibily the best Year 2 in the world! This week we have had a ‘roaring’ time, learning all about Dinosaurs!

We discovered some dinosaur footprints and eggs within our rooms. We looked at the footprints and matched them to a possibility of animals, judging by the size of the eggs we discussed that it had to be a large dinosaur. The large dinosaur that the children believed it to be was a Tyrannosaurus Rex however we have since learnt that the eggs are in fact that of an Allosaurus.

We have watched several video clips and learnt lots of facts on all sorts of dinosaurs. Over the past 3 literacy lessons we have focussed on Al and what he eats, how he lived, and how he was different from a Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Our literacy focus currently is on non-fiction information on Dinosaurs, once the children have enough information on dinosaurs we shall begin story writing, focussing on settings and characters before finally writing their own Dinosaur story!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the staff and children for all the support we have had during our previous half term with the SATS in which the children did incredibly well.

In maths our classes have been focussed on recapping addition and subtraction. Miss Byles maths group have focussed on number bonds to 20.

Mr Hustler’s group have been focussed on word problems with numbers up to 1000.

We have had some special events this week, on Wednesday and Thursday the current Year 1’s came up to Year 2 to meet their new teachers. The current Year 2’s had a great afternoon of PE on Wednesday. On Thursday we had a joint PE afternoon with the current Year 3/4’s from the Junior School. We competed in running races, learnt throwing and kicking activities which turned into hockey and football games. All the children had a brilliant time and all the work we have done in PE this year really showed, the children of Year 2 were able to outrun and had better techniques for throwing and kicking than a large majority of the current 3/4’s! A big well done to all the children!

Mr Hustler and the Year 2 Team.
