Week 4 in Year 2.
“The volcano began to erupt” wrote Mr Hustler on the Whiteboard in his best handwriting. The children unimpressed yawned stating that they could write more interesting sentences than that.
The challenge was set, the activity began.
“The fiery misty mountain began to grumble, red hot lava exploded out”
“The volcano, huge and boiling hot, started to splinter until it got so close to the surface edge of the volcano before finally exploding! Boom!
“Suddenly, as the volcano started to erupt lots of dinosaurs began running towards me and I felt so scared that I fell down, down into a gigantic green bush! Ouch! I exclaimed!”
“As I was creeping gently through the jungle, bushy and green, I suddenly out of the corner of my eye caught a glimpse of the enormous eruption and started to sprint towards the safety of the sea.”
The Year 2 children this week have blown all of the adults away with their creativeness and vivid imaginations! They have written and developed such fantastic ideas often more innovative than that of the staff! We are currently building on all of the writing work from throughout the year, developing the factual information we have all learnt about dinosaurs and developing these into stories, ready for our dinosaur books next week!
A gigantic THANK YOU! To Miss Potts whom raised lots of money for all of the children, the money donated to year 2 has been spent on a new role play area including dividing walls to make our drama areas super exciting, this will help the children’s involvement in our topics and aid their speaking, listening and writing skills! – As well as being just jolly good fun!
This week we have had a multitude of different activities in our afternoon sessions, the children have unleashed their inner artists, exploring dinosaurs through sketch, collage, painting and modelling!
In Maths we have been solving dinosaur word problems and counting footprints, which has been a lot of fun. On Friday we were exploring volume, capacity and measuring! We measured the lengths and heights of Dinosaurs including, Tyrannosaurus Rex at 14m long and 4m high, Spinosaurus at 18m long and 5m high, Utahraptor at 8m long and 2m high and finally Argentinasaurus at 41m long and 72m high!
Check out the pictures to see a few examples of what we have been doing.
