The Great Fire of London Hits Pennington!

"In the early hours of September 3rd 1666 Thomas Farriner was going about his daily routine, cooking bread in the oven when upon opening the oven he found himself unable to stamp out the embers. The embers took to flame due to the dry straw flooring and the hot weather. Soon followed a Great Fire.

In Year 2 we have been exploring and learning about the Great Fire of London, we have written diary entries, had persuasive arguments, reviewed facts using our detective heads - (are they true or false?) and finally in our science we created paper houses, alligning them closely before starting The Great Fire.

As you can see from the following images the children have all worked so incredibly hard. Our wooden medieval houses look phenominal, the effort involved by all in creating these masterpeices was inspirational, great work boys and girls!

Daniel and Tyler worked together to create Samuel Pepys 'fact pack' of information. The boys came up with the idea whilst using the role play area dressed as Samuel Pepys in one of our Guided Reading sessions.

Continuing the current trend for raising the standard of the writing we gave the children the opportunity to impress everyone with their diary entry writing from The Fire. All of the staff throughout the school have been amazed with the ability of all the children in the current Year 2. See for yourself, have a read!

A huge thank you to Mrs. Gosney whom has given so much to the team since joining us. After Easter she will be lowering her teaching hours and Miss Byles (previously in Year 1) is coming up to drive the Junipers and all of Year 2 forwards!

Enjoy the Easter Holidays! The children deserve a rest, they have been simply fantastic.
